Kiev may consider Moscow passport initiatives, says foreign minister
Journal Staff Report

KIEV, Oct. 31 - Ukraine favors the preservation of the currently existing regulations entitling Ukrainian and Russian citizens to cross the Ukrainian-Russian border with internal passports as well as foreign travel documents, but it is prepared to consider Russia's initiatives on the matter.

"We believe that the current regulations that envision the crossing of the border with both foreign and internal passports fully meet the interests of citizens of Ukraine and Russia and economic interests of our countries," Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Yevhen Perebyinis told Interfax-Ukraine.

Perebyinis admitted that Russia is entitled to bring up the issue, and it has informed Ukraine of its preferences. "One round of consultations has even been held at the working level between the Foreign Ministries, at which the parties aired and documented their positions on the matter," he said.
