KIEV, Oct. 23 – The restoration of irrigation systems in the south of Ukraine would increase the country's grain harvest to 80 million tons, the Deputy Agricultural Policy and Food Minister said.
"The restoration of irrigation systems will help boost the grain harvest in the conditions of changes in the climate in the south. Today, irrigated land is efficiently used in Kherson region. The corn harvest has almost doubled in the region on irrigated land. If the irrigation is restored, Ukraine will be able to boost its grain harvest to 80 million tons and exports to 50 million tons," said Deputy Minister Ivan Bisiuk.
He said that an investment project and a feasibility study on the restoration of irrigation systems on 1 million hectares is being discussed in Ukraine.
