BRUSSELS, Oct. 14 - The European Commission has unveiled a list of 250 key energy infrastructure projects of common interest for the EU in the energy sector, which also includes a project in Ukraine, the commission said in a statement released in Brussels on Monday.
"These 'projects of common interest' (PCI) will benefit from accelerated licensing procedures and improved regulatory conditions and may have access to financial support from the Connecting Europe Facility, under which a EUR 5.85 billion budget has been allocated to trans-European energy infrastructure for the period 2014-2020," reads the statement.
The European Commission said that the implementation of these projects would help member states integrate their energy markets, enable them to diversify their energy sources and "bring an end to the energy isolation of some member states."
