KIEV, Nov. 16 - Ukraine will invite French energy companies to join a natural gas pipeline joint venture with Russia aimed at boosting natural gas supplies to the European Union, an official said Wednesday.

Plans to invite the French companies, such as Gaz de France, suggest Ukraine seeks to woo big Western firms to back the project after Germany had indicated it may join forces with Russia to build a rival pipeline, bypassing Ukraine, analysts said.
