KIEV, Sept. 26 – Ukraine, on the road to diversifying energy supplies, should more actively work on the reform of the energy sector, the development of gas production, and the creation of an enabling environment for investors, said Regions Party MP Anatoliy Kinakh, first deputy chairman of Parliament's Committee on National Security and Defense.
"The diversification of supplies and the maximum use of domestic energy resources are the basis of the country's energy security. By implementing such a strategy, Ukraine has every chance of becoming an energy independent state. We have huge reserves of power-generating coal - about 40 billion tons, and there are serious prospects for renewable energy sources, starting with solar and wind energy, the development of gas production on the Black Sea shelf, etc. The fact that our country reduced the purchases of imported natural gas in such a short time confirms that we have great potential and huge resources," the MP's press office quoted him as saying.
