KHARKIV, Aug. 30 – The removal of the last batch (about 790 tons) of melange, a toxic component of rocket fuel, from the A-2136 military unit (Shevchenkove district in Kharkiv region) is scheduled for September 4, the Kharkiv regional media center of the Defense Ministry reported.
"The military unit is currently taking measures to prepare the hazardous liquid for transportation in 14 special tank cars, seven of which were provided by Russia... Since the introduction last year in the region of a bilateral agreement on the disposal of surplus ammunition, it will be the tenth and final removal of military property from the eastern region," reads the statement.
It is planned that the removal of the last batch of melange will be monitored by employees of the OSCE's main office, the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, the leadership of the Defense Ministry, the servicemen of the command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and local government representatives.
