KIEV, Aug. 27 – Ukraine's decision to impose special duties on imported cars will be canceled automatically if the country signs an agreement on association and a free trade area with the European Union, Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara said.
"We believe that such measures are temporary in nature, and if Ukraine signs an agreement on association and a free trade area with the EU, such measures will in fact be removed automatically," the minister said at a briefing in Kiev on Monday after the talks with his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida.
The Japanese foreign minister, in turn, said that his country was concerned about the introduction of special duties on cars and expressed the hope that Kiev would review this decision.
