KIEV, July 24 – The unidentified individuals who seized the Etel ship in Benghazi, Libya, have no claims against the ship or its owners, and took this step because of a scam with the delivery of cars by the Faina ship, the Vesti newspaper reported, citing an Odessa cargo carrier.
"Libyans were just swindled of a large amount last year after the same cargo – cars - was sold twice to different people. Intermediaries in Jordan purchased 650 Kia and Hyundai cars in Hong Kong and sold them to a Ukrainian firm. But, at the same time, somehow, they sold the same cars to the Libyans. The Libyans made a one hundred percent pre-payment and calmly waited for the goods. But the foreign cars on the Faina, instead of Benghazi, arrived at Illichivsk, where they were unloaded and shipped to different dealerships. Without waiting for the cargo, the Libyans started complaining and demanded their cars back," the newspaper wrote.
