IVANO-FRANKIVSK, May 22 – The Cabinet of Ministers is to allocate UAH 280 million to finish the removal and disposal of perchlorobenzene from a toxic waste landfill in Kalush (Ivano-Frankivsk region) in 2013.
"Today, a draft cabinet resolution on the allocation of funds to carry out urgent environmental protection measures in 2013, which foresees allotting UAH 280 million from the state environment protection fund to remove, transport and dispose of hazardous perchlorobenzene waste," Deputy Director of the ecological safety department at the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry of Ukraine, Yuriy Hirman, said at an offsite meeting of the parliamentary committee for ecological policy in Yaremche in Ivano-Frankivsk region on Monday.
He said that in 2010-2012 a total of 21,500 tons of perchlorobenzene was removed from Kalush for disposal. Some UAH 750 million was allocated for the said operations from the reserve fund of the national budget and the state environmental protection fund.
