KIEV, April 22 – A group of lawmakers has proposed that excise duties on beer be tripled, with the money raised being used to finance healthcare measures and the Okhmatdyt National Specialized Children's Hospital (Kiev).
Draft laws Nos. 2876 and 2880 was registered in the parliament on April 18 by Tetiana Bakhteyeva, Yuriy Miroshnychenko, Andriy Shupko (all from the Party of Regions faction), Andriy Pyshny, Valeriy Dubil, Mykhailo Holovko, Lesia Orobets, Roman Ilyk (all from the Batkivschyna faction), Maria Matios, and Andriy Putilov (both from the UDAR faction).
"Bills have been drawn up that foresee an increase in the excise duty on beer by three times: from UAH 0.87 to UAH 2.50 per liter," said Bakhteyeva, the head of the parliamentary committee for health care.
