KIEV, April 19 – The prosecutor's office has decided to suspend the construction of the Catholic Church of St. Francis of Assisi on Zoya Haidai Street (Obolon district) in Kiev because of a conflict between local residents and parishioners, the Television News Service on 1+1 Channel reported.
On Wednesday, April 17, both parties to the conflict held a peaceful gathering at the construction site of the Catholic Church in Obolon district. Later, however, people started destroying and taking down the fence surrounding the construction site. The dozen or so law enforcement officers present could not hold back the crowd, and, according to some media reports, a girl was injured during the stampede.
