KIEV, March 11 – The State Agency for Tourism and Resorts has developed a new procedure for the classification of accommodation facilities and plans to introduce it in the near future, said Olena Shapovalova, the agency's head.
"Today the principle of the classification of domestic hotels, I mean the procedure for assigning them with stars, differs significantly from the one used in most European countries. The absence of a comparable procedure confuses foreign tourists and significantly complicates the process of the selection of a hotel. For this reason, our experts, together with the best domestic and foreign experts, have developed an improved procedure based on an assessment scale that is fully harmonized with the procedure used in European countries. We hope to introduce it soon," Shapovalova told an Interfax-Ukraine reporter at ITB Berlin, the largest international tourism exhibition, which was open in Berlin on March 6-10, 2013.
