LVIV, Feb. 7 - Lviv Regional Council will not agree to a production sharing agreement with Chevron, which foresees shale gas production, until it gets answers to questions about environmental threats to the region, Regional Council Chairman Petro Kolodiy said on Thursday.
"Lviv Regional Council will not undertake obligations and will safeguard the interests of the regional community until it gets documents, until everything is specified on the issue. We have repeatedly asked to give a clear answer about the chemical composition of the substance used for hydraulic fracturing, as well as the environmental impact of such activities. We have not received a response to any question," he said.
He said Ukraine has enough natural resources and alternative energy sources to ensure the country's energy security.
