KIEV, Feb. 1 – Ukraine plans to destroy 3 million PFM-1 antipersonnel mines by 2014 at the Pavlohrad Chemical Plant in Dnipropetrovsk region under the NATO Partnership for Peace Trust Fund project.
A relevant contract was signed by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry and the NATO Maintenance and Supply Agency (NAMSA) in Kiev on Friday, the Defense Ministry reported.
Ukraine's Deputy Defense Minister Artur Babenko said that the contract will be executed as part of the second stage of the implementation of a project carried out by NATO in Ukraine since 2006. Apart from antipersonnel mines, a total of 76,000 tons of ammunition and 366,000 units of light weapons and small arms are to be destroyed by 2014.
