KIEV, Oct. 29 – Ukrhydroenergo has started adding water to the upper reservoir of the Dnistrovska hydroelectric pumped storage power plant, and Ukrenergo has connected the 330 kV Dnistrovska hydroelectric pumped storage power plant-Bar substation power line.
President Viktor Yanukovych gave the command to launch the two objects from the Ukrenergo's central dispatching office in Kiev on October 26.
"The Dnistrovska plant will be among top five powerful plants in the world, and will be the largest in Europe… The commissioning of the upper reservoir of the plant will boost annual power generation by unit 1 of the plant by four times, to 1 billion kWh. This will also give mobile managed capacity to the country's power grid, which will strengthen energy independence by cutting gas consumption," Ukrhydroenergo said.
Yanukovych said that unit 2 of the plant is to be launched in 2013.
