KIEV, Oct. 22 – After the coming into force of a law banning tobacco advertising, sponsorship and sales promotion, 98% of trade outlets have removed direct cigarette advertising from showcases and cash desk areas, according to the results of monitoring in five cities of Ukraine and Crimea.
"Some 98% of trade outlets removed direct cigarette advertising from showcases and cash desk areas. Some 58% of them removed the means to promote tobacco sales from showcases and cash desk areas. However 79% of trade outlets are violating the law on placing information about prices [for tobacco products] on a separate sheet of 30 cm x 40 cm," the coordinator of the Smoke-Free Ukraine project, the representative of the Zhyttia public association, Andriy Skypalsky, said at a press conference in Kiev on Monday, presenting the results of the monitoring held by the coordinators of the Smoke-Free Ukraine project.
