KIEV, Oct. 11 – Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) Primate Metropolitan Volodymyr (secular name Viktor Sabodan) has asked President Viktor Yanukovych to veto the law on the single demographic register.

"Dear Viktor Fedorovych! On behalf of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church I'm asking you to veto the law 'On the single state demographic register and documents that prove Ukrainian citizenship, certifies identity or special status' (No. 10492), since the given law could restrict basic human rights. I think that the question of the reasonability of the creation in Ukraine of a single demographic register should be additionally studied," reads the letter from the metropolitan, which has been posted on the official Web site of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

He stressed that many foreign countries had decided not to introduce such registers.
