KIEV, Oct. 4 – The likelihood in the foreseeable future of the privatization of the Ukrainian defense sector is high, representatives of the sector say.
"The prospects of privatization in the defense sector, which have been discussed for several years, including in the corporate community, are obvious in nature: the sector requires investment for technological and technical modernization. The financial capabilities of the state have limits," a representative of the directorate of the defense and industrial complex said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine, commenting on a statement of Economic Development and Trade Minister Petro Poroshenko on the government's plans to considerably reduce the list of companies in state ownership, which was broadcast recently on a Ukrainian television channel.
He said that deterioration of fixed assets in the sector today is around 80%, according to open sources.
