MOSCOW, Sept. 10 - The International Center for the Enrichment of Uranium (ICEU) has imported natural uranium from Ukraine for subsequent enrichment.
A statement issued by the center says that fuel sufficient to load roughly half the active zone of a 1000 mWt reactor.
The ICEU is enriching Ukrainian uranium in the context of ensuring guaranteed shipments to center shareholders (Ukraine owns 10% of the ICEU).
In April, the ICEU and Ukraine's state concern Yaderne Toplyvo (Nuclear Fuel) clinched an agreement involving the center's integration into shipments of fuel for Ukrainian nuclear plants by the Russian fuel company TVEL. In particular, the Ukrainians will supply natural uranium that the ICEU will enrichment at one of four Russian combines and then turn it over to TVEL, where it fuel assemblies will be prepared.
