KIEV, Aug. 23 – Employees of the Security Service (SBU) have detained two residents of Zakarpattia region that are suspected of being involved in the construction and work of an underground tunnel across the Ukrainian-Slovak border, which was used for cigarette smuggling.
The SBU announced on Thursday that the tunnel was discovered on July 18.
On July 20, the investigatory department of the SBU department in Zakarpattia region opened a criminal case on the organization of illicit crossing of the state border of Ukraine and illegal buying, storing and transportation of illegally produced tobacco products for sale under Part 2 of Article 332 and Part 1 of Article 204 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
