ZAPORIZHIA, August 2 – Zaporizhia-based Vodokanal utility company is planning to ask Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, who is to visit Dniprovska waterworks No. 1 in Zaporizhia, to allocate UAH 150 million for the modernization of its sewage treatment facilities.
"To improve the ecological situation in River Dnipro and streamline quality of drinking water with European standards, Dniprovska waterworks No. 1 is planning to implement a project on wastewater reuse. Drinking water that is polluted in the production process is pumped through Zaporizhia sewage treatment facilities and discharged into Dnipro. The modernization project that requires UAH 150 million could help to reduce the volume of polluted water discharged into the Dnipro by four times, from 12% to 3%," Vodokanal Director General Volodymyr Bychykhin told Interfax-Ukraine.
