KIEV, July 5 – Ukraine spent about $5 billion on preparations for Euro 2012, while foreign fans left nearly $1 billion in state coffers, Infrastructure Minister Borys Kolesnikov said.
"According to our preliminary calculations, 1.8 million people visited our country during Euro 2012. Assuming each foreign fan spent on average $400 in Ukraine, and add other income, it's possible to say that the event brought in a billion dollars," he said in the interview to Il Sole 24 Ore Italian edition posted on the Web site of the Ukraine 2012 information agency.
