KIEV, June 8 – The Economic Development and Trade Ministry plans in a month to submit to the cabinet of ministers a state program for the development of the passenger car building industry for the period until 2020, Volodymyr Hornik, the deputy head of the basic sector development department at the ministry, told reporters.
The program foresees an increase in the import duty on passenger cars from 10% to 25% as a measure to protect the market and create favorable investment climate.
"This is first of the tools [that will be used] to protect the domestic market, which will trigger the development of the automobile industry, as with a 10% rate investors are not interested in coming to our market. It's important for us today to create the localization of production, so adjacent areas might produce metal for cars and spare parts," He said that in coming month the program should be agreed with the Finance Ministry, Justice Ministry, the State Customs Service and Tax Service.
