Journal Staff Report

KIEV, May 22 – Ukraine expects to have a future role in Afghanistan by helping its government repair its huge stockpile of Soviet-era weaponry, President Viktor Yanukovych said after meeting his Afghan counterpart in Chicago.

"We tackled a wide range of cooperation issues, which we will start realizing in the near future, and issues related to various infrastructure facilities – transport and energy - in Afghanistan. I'm referring to repairs of Soviet-era military equipment," Yanukovych said after meeting Afghan President Hamid Karzai.
