KIEV, April 23 – Effective mechanisms should be created to implement agreements on expanding cooperation between Ukraine and Japan in the field of nuclear safety, National Security and Defense Council Secretary Andriy Kliuyev said.
Kliuyev, commenting on last week's signing of an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in response to emergencies at nuclear power plants, said that the document had created legal principles for the further unification of scientific and technological potential and resources, as well as for the use of the experience of experts from both countries in tackling the consequences of accidents at nuclear power plants.
Kliuyev said that the Chernobyl nuclear power plant could be a platform for such cooperation, where Ukraine, with the support of the IAEA, is planning to proceed with the creation of an international research center. Its developments could become the property of scientists from around the world and a significant contribution to improving global nuclear safety, he said.
