KIEV, Feb. 22 - President Viktor Yanukovych on Wednesday dismissed Valeriy Khoroshkovskiy from the post of finance minister and appointed him first deputy prime minister, the presidential press service reported.
Although the presidential decree does not specify Khoroshkovskiy’s new duties, the first deputy prime minister has usually supervised the energy sector and trade issues.
The position makes Khoroshkovskiy a step closer to the post of prime minister following months of speculation in the media that Prime Minister Mykola Azarov may be replaced soon.
