KIEV, Feb. 13 – The installed capacity of plants feeding the Ukrainian power grid grew by 0.3% or 149 megawatts, to 53,311 megawatts, in 2011, according to Ukrenergo.
A reduction in the installed capacity last year was registered at thermal power plants managed by the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry of Ukraine (a fall of 75 megawatts). In particular, a thermal generator with a capacity of 100 megawatts was shut down at Dobrotvirska thermal power plant, while the capacity of unit six of Starobesheve thermal power plant (Donbassenergo) was changed from 175 to 200 megawatts.
Ukrenergo said that the largest growth in the installed capacity in 2011 was seen at solar power plants – by 23.1 times or 179.4 megawatts, to 187.5 megawatts and wind farms – by 40.7% or 35.1 megawatts, to 121.3 megawatts.
