KIEV, Jan. 31 – The gross corn harvest in 2012 could reach 25 million tons, which would be 11% up on 2011, according to the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club.
The UCAB said that the crop area for corn of the 2012 harvest could be expanded by 25%, to 4.5 million hectares.
"The high margins from corn encourage farmers to plant more fields with corn. Over the past five years, the corn margin on average came to 25%, while for wheat and barley the indicator is 10-15%," reads the release, citing the AgroEfficiency project coordinator, Roman Slastena.
