Coal mines reportedly increased production by 8.9% last year

KIEV, Jan. 10 – Coal mines in Ukraine upped coal production by 8.9% (6.693 million tons) in 2011 to 81.859 million tons, the Energy and Coal Ministry reported.

The ministry said that production of energy coal went up by 11.4% to 57 million tons while coking coal output grew by 3.7% to 24.859 million tons.

Production enterprises under the ministry's sphere of management reduced coal output in 2011 by less than 0.1% to 38.431 million tons. They saw a 0.3% decline in energy coal output, to 30.891 million tons, while their coking coal output grew by 1.2%, to 7.541 million tons.
