KIEV, Nov. 28 – Money paid by EnergoAtom to form a fund for decommissioning reactors is being sent to the national budget but is not used for its intended purpose, EnergoAtom President Yuriy Nedashkovsky said.
"Today the money we send – around UAH 284 million every year – is not working as a fund… it enters the budget and dissolves in it," he said.
"According to Ukrainian law, securities [government domestic loan bonds] should be bought using money from the fund. This is needed to protect money from inflation. However, a ministry is an unprofitable organization, and as soon as the minister or his deputy sign something in this direction, the Prosecutor General's Office will show interest in them," he said.
