KIEV, Nov. 1 – There are no quotas on car imports from Europe to Ukraine in the EU trade deal, and the announced number of 45,000 cars per year is only an indicator on which protective measures to regulate the share of European cars on the Ukrainian market will be based, the Ukrainian government's commissioner for European integration, Valeriy Piatnytsky, said in an interview with the Mirror Weekly Ukraine.
"I'd like to stress that there are no quotas - there is nothing to divide. When someone talks about tariff quotas [in our country], there always appear those who wish to divide them. In this case there is nothing to divide. 45,000 is an indicator, and not the number of cars that we're obliged to import. Everything will depend on the market: one year we're able to import 30,000, and another year 130,000. But 45,000 is just an indicator for an institution that could take protective measures," the official said while commenting on reports about the alleged introduction of quotas.
