KIEV, Oct. 26 – The duty free imports of 45,000 passenger cars per year foreseen as a part of the creation of a free trade zone with the European Union is beneficial mainly for European manufacturers, while Ukraine is not ready to supply its cars to the EU market, taking into account the strict requirements on the products, UkrAVTO President and MP Tariel Vasadze said.
"Now the conditions have been discussed, but there is the desire of the EU to export a certain number of cars duty free, and Ukraine has the same right. However, we understand that this is movement to one side – unfortunately, our production is not ready to overcome the technical barriers Europe defines for its market, giving ecological and technical requirements as reasons, so today they say this is a great achievement for us, but this is a great achievement only for European manufacturers," he told the press at the III international conference AutoPROm.UA 2011 on Tuesday.
