Government decides to boost pensions for Chernobyl victims, WW2 vets

KIEV, Oct. 11 – The Ukrainian government has decided to increase the social payments made to veterans of the Great Patriotic War (Second World War), participants of combat operations and victims of the Chernobyl disaster, Social Policy Minister Serhiy Tyhypko said on Wednesday.

The size of most pensions for disabled war veterans will grow by 20% from 2012 (on average from UAH 2,589 to UAH 3,112). Additional payments or monthly benefits for families of the dead will grow by 30% (from UAH 275 to UAH 358). The families of disabled veterans of war who have died will receive a rise in payments of 23.5%, and payments for the families of dead participants of combat operations will grow by 30%.
