KIEV, Oct. 12 – The National Bank of Ukraine has decided to temporarily cancel making copies of ID documents when banks buy currency from the public.
"We permit banks to buy currency from individuals when persons present any ID document. The banks are not to make copies of the documents. The requirement will take effect soon and will expire until the end of the Euro 2012 [European football championship]," said NBU Governor Serhiy Arbuzov.
"This is a temporary measure. The NBU still demands from banks to observe Ukrainian law, including requirements to forex deals. I point out that the course for liberalization of the currency market with the synchronous strengthening control over its functioning declared by the central bank would be retained," the NBU governor said.
