KIEV, Oct. 11 - Former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko on Tuesday was sentenced to seven years in prison for exceeding her authority while negotiating a controversial 10-year natural gas agreement with Russia in January 2009.

The verdict, delivered by judge Rodion Kireyev, ends a three-month trial, which has been widely viewed by European Union leaders as politically motivated.
