KIEV, Oct. 10 – The European Business Association has appealed to Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn regarding the revision of a draft law on safety and the quality of foodstuffs (No. 8493), saying it is not in line with the requirements of European Union law.
According to a letter to Lytvyn, a copy of which has been forwarded to Interfax-Ukraine, the association is alarmed by clauses of the draft law setting requirements for the obligatory marking of "gluten-free" on all types of the foodstuff without exception if gluten content does not exceed 20 milligrams per 100 grams.
"The clause is not in line with EU law – EU regulation No. 41/2009 of January 20, 2009, although authors of the draft refer to this document," reads the letter.
