KIEV, Sept. 7 – Former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, imprisoned while facing charges stemming from her 2009 natural gas pact with Russia, could be sentenced to from seven to 10 years as soon as Friday, BYT-Batkivschyna faction MP Serhiy Vlasenko said on Channel 5.
"There could be any sentence, because the judge has created such great juridical chaos in this case that he can do anything, and it would be no more surreal than his [present] actions are. Considering the development of the process and these actions, I think the sentence will be announced in the near future, and this would be a punishment envisaged by Article 365, Part 3 [of the Criminal Code of Ukraine] – from seven to ten years in jail. That's the way I see the situation," Vlasenko said.
