YALTA, April 18 – Bad assets of the Ukrainian banking system total 15% of total assets, Ihor Sorkin, the deputy governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, said.
"Today 15% of assets have been classified as bad assets. Of course, the banks are scared, and this is one of the reasons why they are careful in crediting," he told the press at the Investment Forum "Yalta Business Meetings."
He said that the NBU is continuing to work to find a solution to the problem, and the possibility of forming an optimal mechanism for the sale of bad assets, including to non-residents, is being discussed.
