KIEV, April 18 – President Viktor Yanukovych assured European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso on Monday that Ukraine is determined to complete comprehensive talks on political association and free trade with the EU before the end of the year.

The comment was made a week after Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin failed to persuade Yanukovych to scrap the talks with the EU, and to join a Moscow-led trade bloc instead.
