KIEV, April 11 - Electricity production in Ukraine rose by 3.8% or 1.962 billion kWh year-on-year in Q1, to 53.392 billion kWh, the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry said.
Nuclear power plants in the period increased generation by 2.4%, to 23.375 billion kWh, while hydroelectric plants reduced it by 7.9%, to 3.391 billion kWh. Thermal power plants and combined heat and power plants increased electricity generation by 6.8%, to 23.989 billion kWh, while municipal combined heat and power plants increased it by 7.1%, to 2.636 billion kWh.
Alternative energy generators produced two million kWh, down 16.7%.
In March 2011 electricity generation in the country grew by 6.25 or 1.032 billion kWh, to 17.663 billion kWh.
