DNIPROPETROVSK, March 17 – International organizations such as the World Trade Organization are calling on Ukraine to cancel existing export duties on ferrous and nonferrous scrap metals.
The director general of the Dnipropetrovsk-based Metallurgprom association of metal companies of Ukraine, Vasyl Kharakhulakh, said this at a meeting of representatives of mining and metals complex in Dnipropetrovsk.
He said that the Ukrainian cabinet could cancel the duties this year.
He also said that this year Ukrainian metal companies would obtain 7.3 million tons of scrap metal, and taking into account the launch of an electric furnace steelmaking workshop at Interpipe Dniprostal, the demand in scrap metal would grow by another 600,000 tons, to almost 7.9 million tons per year.
