Transformer fire at DTEK plant cuts Europe electricity exports
Journal Staff Report

KIEV, Feb. 23 – DTEK, the largest private vertically integrated energy holding in Ukraine, announced it cut exports of electricity from the Burshtyn thermal power plant (Zakhidenergo) to Europe on February 21 due to a fire at a transformer.

The director of Power-Trade Ltd., Andriy Favorov, said that the malfunction of the thermal power plant's transformer led to a reduction in the amount of electricity generated for export to Hungary, Slovakia and Romania from 490 MW to 50 MW.

He said that despite the force-majeure situation, DTEK plans to implement its contract liabilities to its consumers, replacing Ukrainian electricity with electricity bought on the European spot markets.
