Trade union federation disputes pension cuts with IMF leader
Journal Staff Report

KIEV, Feb. 7 – The Federation of Trade Unions has provided an International Monetary Fund mission with the rationale of inappropriateness of raising the retirement age for women and increasing gas prices for households, yet it hasn't received any reply regarding the Fund's official stand.

These issues were in the focus of a meeting between the Federation's leaders and IMF Mission Chief for Ukraine Thanos Arvanitis in Kiev on Monday, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Hryhoriy Osovoy told Interfax-Ukraine.

"We've once again told the mission about our stance," he said. "Last autumn we provided the mission, which was considering a regular [loan] tranche for Ukraine, with our estimates and rationale which indicated that such decisions were inappropriate."
