Journal Staff Report

KIEV, Dec. 16 – The UN General Assembly's session in New York on Wednesday passed a draft resolution on the holding of an international conference called "Twenty-five Years after the Chernobyl Disaster: Safety for the Future" with the participation of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

The draft resolution was presented by Ukraine on behalf of the three nations most affected by the Chernobyl Disaster - Ukraine, Belarus and Russia. The document was co-written by 74 states of the United Nations, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's press service reported on Thursday.

The resolution envisages a special commemorative meeting of the UN General Assembly on April 26, 2011 to mark the disaster's twenty-fifth anniversary.
