BRUSSELS, Sept. 24 – The European Commission has welcomed Ukraine's accession to the Energy Community and expects the implementation by the country of EU energy legislation in the gas sector, the commission's energy spokesperson, Marlene Holzner, said in Brussels on Friday.

"With this accession, Ukraine will join the European energy market. This means that the key European energy legislation will also be in place in Ukraine. The commission very much welcomes this step," she said.
