Journal Staff Report

CHERNOBYL, Sept. 23 - Ukraine hopes to secure funding from international donors needed to continue and finish the construction of a new safe confinement for the sarcophagus for the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, by April 2011, said First Deputy Prime Minister Andriy Kliuyev.

"An international conference will be held in Ukraine in April 2011 under UN aegis. We will be preparing it and, of course, we will meet with donors ahead of the conference to get the funding we lack, so we can announce at the conference that all problems related to further construction of the project have been finally resolved," Kliuyev said at a news conference in Chernobyl on Thursday.
