KIEV, May 20 – The sovereignty of Ukraine in the energy sector will be brought to a minimum if there is cooperation between Russia's Gazprom and Ukraine's Naftogaz, according to Mykhailo Honchar, head of energy programs at the Nomos Center.
"The accession of Gazprom to possible integrated company will mean that the leverage over the system of gas transportation system, the system of underground storages of gas will be in fact transferred from the Ukrainian hands to the hands of transportation business group. And at the same time the role of the management of national joint-stock company, as well as the sovereignty of Ukraine in the energy sector will be practically brought to minimum. In particular, this will be a technical subdivision of a Russian monopoly," he said at a press conference in Kiev.
