KIEV, May 7 – Thirty-seven banks in Ukraine operated with losses January through March 2010, which was 21.1% of the overall number of operating banks in Ukraine over that period, the National Bank of Ukraine said on its Web site.
As the NBU said, the total net losses in the banking sector were estimated at UAH 4.423 billion in the first quarter, which was 37% down on the same period of 2009. The highest losses were posted by cabinet-controlled Rodovid Bank (UAH 3.187 billion), UkrSibbank belonging to BNP Paribas S.A. (UAH 717 million), Forum Bank belonging to the Commerzbank Group (UAH 268 million), and SEB Bank (UAH 260 million).
