KIEV, April 23 – Ukraine should use the period of relatively low gas prices for the modernization of its economy, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said during a meeting with EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule.
The prime minister noted that Ukraine has a highly energy intensive economy, therefore the gas price of $400 per 1000 cubic meters would mean a halt in the operation of chemical industry and metallurgy. That is why, it was important for Ukraine to revise the gas agreements with Russia, Azarov said.
