ZAPORIZHIA, March 15 – Zaporizhia is expected to start receiving electricity from solid waste recycling in the second half of 2010.
"Now, we would receive not only secondary raw materials, but also electricity. First wells for extraction of biofuel, from which electricity would be generated, have been drilled at the solid waste dump," Remondis Zaporizhia Ltd. told Interfax-Ukraine last week.
Remondis Zaporizhia Director Andriy Kozak said that biogas extraction would allow settling environment protection problems, as methane emission would be stopped and the city would have a chance to generate electricity from alternative sources.
